Chainstitch embroidery is done using a crochet rather than a needle. It uses wool or artsilk thread for embroidery which is thicker than the cotton or silk thread used in needlework. Accordingly chainstitch embroidery has a greater surface area per stitch than needlework, covering a much larger area in the same amount of time.
Chainstitch rugs can be used either as area rugs or wall hangings and are available in floral, kelim, bird/ animal and other designs.
These rugs are supported with a thick cotton lining which adds to the durability.
